Our Curriculum Vision

At Renaissance Education Group, we believe that every child and young person deserves access to an ambitious, engaging and meaningful education. This should recognise their individuality, celebrate their strengths and enable them to achieve their full potential.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad, balanced and enriching educational experience, combining academic learning with personal development, practical skills and opportunities beyond the classroom. This is because we recognise that many of our pupils have experienced significant barriers to education, including disrupted schooling, gaps in learning and challenges associated with the social, emotions and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Our approach is therefore rooted in the belief that a pupil's starting point should inform their pathway but not limit their ambition.

To ensure this happens, we have built a curriculum that builds knowledge, understanding and skills progressively, while providing the flexibility needed to respond to individual learning needs. Through high-quality teaching, targeted interventions and meaningful opportunities to apply learning, we support pupils to develop confidence, independence, resilience and a positive relationship with education.

Our Active Citizens programme, unique SPARK programme, educational visits, enrichment activities and community engagement experiences enable pupils to develop their interests, discover new strengths and make meaningful connections between their learning and the wider world as they prepare for adulthood.

Our ultimate aim is that every pupil leaves Renaissance Education Group with the knowledge, qualifications, skills and confidence needed to take their next steps successfully.

Key Stages One and Two – Building Strong Foundations

Our Key Stage 1 curriculum is rooted in the early identification of learning needs and gaps that may have occurred in achieving key developmental milestones. Through targeted support, intervention, and personalised strategies, we aim to build strong foundations for future learning. By recognising individual needs and providing the right support, we foster confidence, engagement, and a lifelong love of learning in every child..

During Key Stages Two, our curriculum continues to focus on developing secure foundations in learning, communication, relationships and personal development.

Our primary curriculum draws upon the CUSP (Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership) approach to provide a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum that enables pupils to build and revisit essential knowledge and vocabulary across a broad range of subjects. This is complemented by White Rose Maths, which supports the development of mathematical fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills through a structured and progressive approach.

Reading, writing, communication and mathematics remain central to our provision, recognising their importance in enabling pupils to access learning across all areas of the curriculum.

We understand that pupils may enter our schools with gaps in their knowledge, skills or educational experiences. Through careful baseline assessment, ongoing assessment and professional understanding of individual needs, we identify pupils' starting points and adapt teaching to provide the appropriate level of support and challenge.

Where necessary, learning is delivered at a developmental stage that may differ from a pupil's chronological age, while maintaining high expectations and providing opportunities for progression towards age-related outcomes. Our teachers are supported and trained to ensure the curriculum is accessible to all without removing high expectations.

Creative learning, practical experiences, outdoor education and enrichment opportunities are woven throughout the curriculum, enabling pupils to develop curiosity, imagination and confidence.

Alongside academic progress, there is a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, positive relationships, communication, independence and developing the skills necessary to become successful learners.

Key Stage Three – Broadening Horizons and Deepening Knowledge

At Key Stage Three, pupils access an ambitious and broad curriculum designed to extend their knowledge, develop subject-specific skills and prepare them for future qualifications and pathways.

Our curriculum builds upon the foundations established during the primary years and continues with the same routine lesson structure. This enables clear progression in English, Mathematics, Science and the Wider Curriculum.

Pupils have opportunities to study a range of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Humanities, Religious Education, Art and Design, Physical Education, creative subjects and Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE), based on the Life Lessons programme.

Through our Active Citizens programme and wider enrichment opportunities, pupils develop an understanding of their role within their communities, explore personal interests and engage in experiences that develop independence, teamwork, communication and responsibility.

We recognise that success takes many forms. Alongside progress towards National Curriculum expectations, pupils may have opportunities to work towards AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates and other recognised achievements that celebrate the development of knowledge, practical skills and personal accomplishments.

Ongoing assessment enables teachers to identify progress from individual starting points, address gaps in learning and adapt teaching to maintain appropriate challenge and support.

As pupils progress through Key Stage Three, increasing emphasis is placed on developing independence, understanding personal strengths, exploring future aspirations and preparing for the choices available at Key Stage Four.

Key Stage Four – Personalised Pathways and Recognised Qualifications

At Key Stage Four, our curriculum provides pupils with opportunities to work towards meaningful, nationally recognised qualifications, while continuing to develop the personal, social and practical skills needed for life beyond school.

We recognise that pupils' educational journeys are individual and that their prior experiences, interests and academic starting points alongside their personal aspirations will influence the qualifications and pathways most appropriate for them. This is where Renaissance Education Group ensures an individualised approach.

Our core curriculum continues to prioritise English, mathematics and science, with opportunities to access qualifications at appropriate levels, including GCSEs, Entry Level Certificates and Functional Skills.

Alongside these core subjects, pupils may have opportunities to pursue accredited and vocational pathways in areas such as art and creative crafts, food preparation and cookery, physical education, digital skills, health and social care and other subjects reflecting their interests and future aspirations. These may include GCSEs, vocational qualifications and other recognised accreditation, according to each school's curriculum offer.

Through individualised guidance, assessment and carefully planned teaching, pupils are supported to work towards ambitious and achievable outcomes. We are committed to ensuring that additional learning needs, previous educational disruption or anxiety associated with examinations do not unnecessarily restrict access to qualifications or future opportunities.

Our curriculum continues to place significant importance on personal development, careers education, employability, independent living skills and preparation for adulthood through our Pathways programme.

This is complimented by Active Citizens, community experiences, enterprise activities, careers encounters and appropriately planned work-related learning, pupils develop an understanding of the opportunities available to them beyond school.

Our aim is to ensure that every pupil leaves Key Stage Four with a meaningful record of achievement, a clear understanding of their strengths and aspirations, and an identified pathway towards further education, training or employment.

Key Stage 4 Plus – Preparing for Adulthood and Future Opportunities

Where post-16 education forms part of a school's registered provision, our curriculum builds upon pupils' previous learning and achievements, providing personalised pathways towards further qualifications, greater independence and successful transitions into adulthood.

We recognise that some young people benefit from additional time and carefully structured support to secure essential qualifications, develop confidence and prepare for their next stage of education or training.

Our Key Stage 4 Plus approach combines continued academic learning with employability, careers education, practical life skills and personal development.

Pupils will continue to work towards appropriate Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in English, mathematics, science and other subjects aligned with their interests, abilities and future aspirations.

Alongside accredited learning, there is a strong emphasis on developing independence, financial understanding, communication, problem-solving, healthy relationships, community participation and the practical skills required for adult life.

Through our Pathways programme, Active Citizens opportunities, careers guidance, work-related experiences and links with further education providers and external agencies, young people are supported to make informed and realistic decisions about their futures.

Our ambition is that every young person progresses towards a positive and sustainable destination, equipped with the qualifications, skills, confidence and independence necessary to thrive and take ownership of their own futures.
